Our Starlink Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) received a service request for a residential Starlink reinstallation. An initial offsite assessment was conducted to evaluate the existing Starlink setup. Based on the customer’s feedback, the current configuration was delivering speeds of up to 100 Mbps. However, performance was being limited due to obstructions caused by a nearby wall and surrounding trees (see the image of old setup).
Old Setup of Starlink
To achieve optimal Starlink performance, the Starlink dish must be positioned with unobstructed view of the sky, ensuring a clear line of sight to the satellite network across its full azimuth and elevation range. Even partial obstructions such as trees, walls, or nearby structures can result in signal attenuation, packet loss, increased latency, or intermittent connectivity. For this reason, precise alignment and strategic placement of Starlink dish are essential to maximizing throughput and reliable connection.
At ProSat Networks, our objective is to deliver best-in-class installation services by applying technical expertise, advanced site assessments and proven installation practices. We are committed to exceeding customer expectations by ensuring every deployment achieves peak Starlink performance.
Following the assessment, our team prepared a detailed installation proposal and submitted it for the customer’s review and approval. Once approved and the necessary equipment was onsite, we coordinated with our expert Starlink installers in Spencerville, IN to schedule and execute the installation.
The Starlink installation in Spencerville, IN was executed by performing a Starlink obstruction test, as shown in the image below. The results confirmed that the selected installation point offers a ‘good experience,’ ensuring Starlink reliable connectivity for streaming, web browsing, video calls and online gaming.
The Starlink installation team securely mounted the Starlink dish on the rooftop using pivot mount. The elevated placement ensures the dish has an unobstructed line of sight to the sky, ensuring clear line of sight to the satellite network.
They routed the Starlink cable from roof to the existing cable path to the indoor location of the Gen3 WiFi mesh router.
The Starlink terminal cable was connected to the router, which was then powered on and initialized. The router was activated through the Starlink network and configured with the customer’s wireless settings. A unique SSID and secure password were setup to establish a personalized and secure WiFi connection.
Then, the customer was provided with a walkthrough on how to manage the Starlink internet through Starlink app.
Following the Starlink dish installation, the team carried out the alignment test to fine-tune the positioning of the dish. This procedure validated that the dish has an unobstructed line of sight to the Starlink satellite network, which is critical for maintaining strong signal.
Then, the Starlink speed test was done twenty minutes after installation to verify the Starlink internet performance through the metrics of download speed, upload speed and latency. After several hours of the post-installation, we asked the customer to perform another speed test. It gives us impressive result as shown in the image below. It is important to note that it takes upto 12 hours to achieve optimal speeds.
Following the reinstallation, the Starlink system demonstrated a significant improvement in performance compared to the old installation setup, which delivered speeds of up to 100 Mbps according to the customer.
First Speed Test: Download: 278 Mbps, Upload: 20 Mbps, Latency: 21 ms
Second Speed Test: Download: 381 Mbps, Upload: 33 Mbps, Latency: 28 ms
These results show a nearly 3–4x increase in download speeds and a 2–3x increase in upload speeds relative to the prior setup. Latency remains well within acceptable ranges for real-time applications such as video conferencing, VoIP and online gaming.
